A thermally insulated, lightweight, double wall aboveground storage tank
called Fireguard has completed and passed testing to receive the Underwriter's Laboratories UL® 2085 listing as both a "Protected" and a "Fire-Resistant" aboveground storage tank (AST).
Fireguard, manufactured by Steel Tank Institute (STI) members, achieved the UL® 2085 listing for "Insulated Secondary Containment Aboveground Tank for Flammable and Combustible Liquids", and has a two-hour fire rating. (US. Patent No. 5,695,089 and 5,809,650)
Lightweight and porous insulation material in the interstice - the
monitorable space between the two steel walls of the tank - provides Fireguard with thermal resistance. The outer wall provides secondary containment. The insulation material developed for Fireguard is
75% lighter than concrete, which has become a common insulator for aboveground tanks.
The Fireguard double wall design provides integral secondary containment
with a minimum of 110% of product stored. Saddles and UL® listed tow-bar skids, along with a variety of fuel fill and dispensing packages, compliment the design of Fireguard. .
Anchorage Tank & Welding, Inc., a licensed manufacturer, is required to
adhere to STI's stringent third-party quality assurance program which includes random inspections. Each tank built to the Standard is registered with the Steel Tank Institute and will bear STI's
Fireguard labels and UL's 2085 label. In addition, each tank will have a 30 year warranty.
